The Granit Wet Oxidation Process (WOP)
(in French: Oxydation par Voie Humide - OVH)

An advanced technology for urban and industrial effluent treatment

The Granit® Wet Oxidation Process (WOP) was developed for the treatment of urban and industrial liquid effluents with a high content of organic pollution.

The resulting liquids after wet oxidation treatment are clear and can be recycled into the plant or are released into the environment.

The WOP principle is a continuous process to destroy organic matter. This reaction works at high temperature and high pressure with oxygen or air, and without fuel. It generates heat, and the resulting products are carbon dioxide (CO2), water and eventually a mineral residue.

Any effluent containing a COD level between 20 and 120 g/l of organics can be processed by the Granit® Wet Oxidation Process.

The degree of reduction of organics can be adjusted between 70% and 99.5%.

The energy generated by the oxidation reaction can be converted to hot water or industrial steam. The system does not generate any toxic emission of gas.

WOP Main Characteristics

Operating Conditions
• operating temperature 250-320°C

• operating pressure 50-130 bar

• reduction of COD from 70% up to over 99.5%

Fields of Application
• hard-to-treat organic pollution (toxic, hard COD...)
• waste sludge from urban and industrial wastewater treatment plants
• effluents from the chemical, petrochemical and pulp and paper industry, etc...

• toxic liquid effluents containing cyanides, sulphites, phenols, pesticides, etc

Environmental benefits
• possible recycling of water and inorganic chemicals

• processed effluent complies with discharge into surface waters or into a biological treatment plant

• very important reduction of sludge volume (transformed into an inert mineral residue)

• recovery of energy in the form of steam or hot water
• no toxic emission of gas (SO2, NOx or CO)

Financial Benefits
• reduced operating costs

• reduced investment

• fully automated process

• very compact (low footprint)
